The mother of murdered South African model Reeva Steenkamp has said that she can forgive Paralympian Oscar Pistorius and just wants to know the truth of what happened the night her daughter was shot dead.
Steenkamp's family have stayed out of the media spotlight and courtrooms until Monday when June Steenkamp attended the first day of the trial where a neighbor gave a testimony about hearing 'blood-curdling screams' on Valentine's Day last year.
According to People magazine, Steenkamp said that as only her daughter and Pistorius were there on that fateful night, she wants to know the truth from the Blade Runner as her daughter is not with them anymore.
Steenkamp further said that she does not wish any harm to Pistorius and can forgive him as she does not want to live with bitterness her entire life, adding that although she wanted to see Pistorius face-to-face, he never looked towards her and just walked past her in the court.
Instead, the report mentioned that Pistorius stayed focused on the testimony, occasionally taking notes, adding that on the second day of the trial, two more witnesses described hearing arguing from his home.
The trial is expected to go on for three weeks and premeditated murder carries a mandatory life sentence with a minimum of 25 years, the report added.
