The BCCI has not yet ruled out Chennai as a venue for next year's World Twenty20 tournament despite the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) failing to meet the deadline to get clearances for the three stands at the MA Chidambaram stadium.

Confirming the news, BCCI's honorary secretary Anurag Thakur was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo, "We have not ruled out Chennai. There are certain limitations also. You can't play Sri Lanka there. The three stands are not complete. You can't keep the Indian fans away from the matches. Many things have to be considered before allocating the venues. There is no new course of action. We'll send the details to the ICC. They will approve it, then the fixtures will be released."

The three stands of the Chennai stadium have remained locked for the last two years.

Reflecting their views on the matter, TNCA secretary Kasi Viswanathan said that they cannot give a completion certificate unless they don't get clearance from the government.

Viswanathan also revealed that TNCA has responded to the ICC questionnaire asking for the capacity of the stadium and commitments for sponsors.
