Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has advised Manchester City boos Manuel Pellegrini that the rich club's owners are too impatient and ambitious, and that the manager will have to deliver in the Champions League.

According to the Mirror, Mark Hughes knows to his cost that the wealth of Manchester City's owners is matched only by their ambition.

City's record in the competition is barely better than Blackburn's and Roberto Mancini's successive failures to get out of the group stage contributed to his sacking in May, the report said.

Hughes said that Pellegrini must put that right, starting with their first game tomorrow at Czech champions Viktoria Plzen.

However, Pellegrini disagrees and insists the Champions League is not a bigger priority than trying to wrest the Premier League trophy back from Manchester United.

He said that it is a task the team needs to take good form into the Champions League but it is not a tournament more important than the Premier League.

Pellegrini said that every manager is different and has his own style, so the team had to keep improving and working hard to perfect his way of playing.
