Ben Stokes displayed some outstanding swing bowling to claim a five-wicket haul and propelled England on verge of regaining Ashes at Trent Bridge.

Earlier, the Alastair Cook-led team declared their first innings on 391-9 after Joe Root's 130 and a brisk 58-run partnership between Moeen Ali and Stuart Broad on the second day of the fourth Test.

Although Chris Rogers (52) and David Warner (64) provided a strong resistance with a 113-run opening partnership, Stokes flexed his bowling muscles to reduce the tourists to 241-7 before bad light ended the day's play.

Australia are still trailing by 90 runs and stare at a crushing defeat with just three more wickets in hand. Adam Voges will resume his innings on 48.

England will take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series, with one more match to be played at the Oval from August 20.
