Andaman and Nicobar Islands Governor Jagdish Mukhi on Wednesday confirmed that 1400 tourists are stuck on Havelock Island and added that the administration has asked them to stay indoors till the weather gets normal.
"There are 1400 tourists on Havelock. We have asked them to stay indoors till the weather improves," he said.
The Indian Navy today had informed about their ships reaching Havelock Island and the evacuation of tourists from there to Port Blair to start as soon as the weather gets normal.
"I assure that as soon as the weather gets normal, evacuation will start and everybody will be brought to Port Blair safely and securely. We are waiting for the right moment and the right opportunity to start the evacuation," Navy PRO D.K. Sharma told ANI.
Tourists were stranded at Havelock Island after heavy rains lashed the region.
The Andaman and Nicobar Disaster Management, which speculated cyclonic storm to hit the area, contacted Indian Navy and requested for an evacuation process be initiated.
Havelock Island is the largest chain of Islands and is a famous tourist destination.
