The pimping trial of ex-IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn in France has reportedly closed and the verdict will be declared on 12 June.

According to the BBC, taking the stand for the final time Strauss-Kahn said: "This is the first time during the trial that I've been able to speak and have the feeling that I am being listened to. Thank you for that."

In his closing arguments, Strauss-Kahn's lawyer Henri Leclerc reportedly told the court that the case against his client had "collapsed".

Strauss-Kahn has consistently denied knowing that women who participated in orgies with him were prostitutes.

In 2011, Strauss-Kahn was arrested on charges of assaulting a maid at the Sofitel in New York, which went on to significantly affect his high-flying career.

The 65-year-old faces up to a decade in prison and a 1m pounds plus fine in a case already shining light on some of the seediest corners of French public life.
