A group of thirty students, representing the University of Delhi, held a street play on Tuesday at the Jallianwala Bagh in celebration of the forthcoming Independence Day.
The students came all the way from Delhi to Amritsar and are also expected to reach Attari Wagah border on the night of August 14 to celebrate the Independence Days of both India and Pakistan. A 'mashal' march will also in the schedule.
The Delhi University Students for Peace (DUSP) Convener, Parveen Kumar told ANI that Indo-Pak peace cycle rally was flagged off from Delhi on August 1 by noted journalist Kuldeep Nayar aiming to bring together the countries of our sub-continent as a south Asian union on the lines of the European Union.
Kumar said, "DUSP is an initiative by Delhi University students adjoined by others, including students from various other colleges and universities including Jamia Millia and Jawaharlal Nehru University, for peace among SAARC nations."
The campaign was started to foster India-Pakistan peace.
"We have received overwhelming support by people everywhere which shows that we should give peace and love a chance. In the absence of mutual trust and friendly relations, India and Pakistan spent huge amounts for defence which could otherwise be used in the fight against poverty and hunger", Kumar said.
"We can't substitute weapons for food, medicines or education. All we need is a new imagination", he added.
