Strong tremors shake eastern India

Strong tremors of earthquake were felt in various parts of the country, including Kolkata, Patna and Guwahati at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

The epicenter of the earthquake is said to be central Myanmar and its magnitude was 6.8 on the Richter scale.

As soon as the tremors were felt, the people moved out of their houses and offices. According to reports, metro services were also suspended in Kolkata.

No loss of property has been reported so far from any part of the country.

"I was sitting in my office and tables started shaking and we all evacuated the building. As soon as we reached downstairs, there were several people standing and from TV we got to know that there was an earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale. At present, I am facing trouble because of rush at the metro station," said Shovi Chaturvedi, a resident of Kolkata.
