Former number one Tiger Woods, who is going from a rough patch on the golf course, missed the cut at the US Open for the first time since 2006 after finishing the second round 16 over par at Chambers Bay.

Meanwhile, Masters champion Jordan Spieth kept on track to create history as Woods missed just his fifth cut in 68 majors.

The 14-time major champion had eight bogeys in a six-over 76, the BBC reported.

Spieth shot a 67 and shares the lead with fellow American Patrick Reed (69) on five under.

Meanwhile, world number one Rory Mcllroy dropped three shots in his last two holes but his two-over 72 and four over total was one inside the halfway cut mark.

Dustin Johnson, who was the overnight leader, had three birdies on his front nine and he reached seven under par but a bogey-bogey finish saw him drop one off the pace on four under after a 71.

Sweden's Henrik Stenson also finished bogey-bogey and that accounted for two of his six dropped shots in a four-over 74 but he still remains in touch at one under.
