Student gets electric shock: NHRC calls for report from UP Govt.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a student of a government-run school Malviya Pathshala in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, became unconscious after getting electric shock from a hand pump while washing mid-day meal utensils on the August 1.

According to reports, the current passed to the hand pump through a nearby stay wire of an electric pole.

Two students of the school alleged that they have been washing the utensils daily on the order of the teachers.

The NHRC has observed that the incident, if true, raises questions of gross violation of human rights of the victim.

 

Accordingly, notices have been issued to the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary, Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh, calling for a detailed report in the matter within four weeks.

According to reports, the child, who suffered burn injuries, was rushed to a government hospital by some people for treatment when the other children saw him fainted and raised alarm.
