A group of 27 students from the remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district called on President Pranab Mukherjee here at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

Speaking on the occasion, the President expressed his happiness that the Rashtriya Rifles had arranged the visit of these students to Delhi and other cities.

He said that he had no doubt that this tour would make students all the more aware of the great history of our country and its unique culture and heritage.

He said he would like this experience to instill in them a strong desire to be a part of the national effort - to strive for high goals, and contribute to the development of the different regions of our country.

The President said that it is very important for students to be mindful that although the different regions of the country may seem to be vastly separated by their different cultures, traditions, music and dance, art and literature, they are nevertheless bound by a shared history and common future. It is our diversity that enriches our country's heritage, he stated.

The children are in Delhi on an educational cum motivational tour of Amritsar, Delhi and Dehradun from May 30 to June 10 as part of Operation Sadbhavana organized by 47 RR Bn (BIHAR).
