Members of the Hatemalo Nepali Student Group organised a candle light vigil here on Sunday to demonstrate moral support for the victims of the earthquake in Nepal. They also gathered funds and materials from the attendees to send to Nepal.
"The recent earthquake has claimed the lives of around 2000 and injured around 5000 people. As we are unable to physically support them, we are trying to raise funds for the aid of these people. We have organised this event to collect money and materials from students to send to Nepal," said Bishal Bhattarai, President of the Hatemalo Nepali Student Group.
"We also organised a candle light vigil to demonstrate our moral support for the people who are suffering in Nepal," he added.
The death toll from the devastating earthquake, which hit Nepal and northern parts of India on Saturday, has reportedly climbed over 2,500 even as the rescue efforts intensified in search of the survivors.
Earlier on Sunday, fresh tremors were felt across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Assam after an earthquake of 6.7 magnitude hit the east of Kathmandu.
The massive earthquake and the aftershocks left behind a trail of death and destruction in Nepal's capital Kathmandu as well as parts of India.
