Liverpool striker Luis Suarez will end the season as the joint winner of the Golden Shoe award for being the top scorer in European football after Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo's injury saw him withdraw from his side's clash with Espanyol on Saturday.

Ronaldo needed just one goal to beat Suarez to the Golden Shoe award but the Portuguese ace's hamstring problem forced him to pull out of Real's 3-1 victory over Espanyol with an eye firmly fixed on next weekend's Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.

According to the Daily Star, Ronaldo pulling out of the match means that he would end the season tied on 31 goals with Suarez and both the striker's will be joint winners of the Golden Shoe award.

Suarez said that he is proud to be competing with players of the level of Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Diego Costa, adding that what happens is one toils away to score goals and then one gets bored because the top strikers do it so easily.

Suarez also said that winning the European Golden Shoe had not been his objective at the beginning of the season and then one start scoring more goals, so now when Real plays he hopes that Ronaldo does not score more goals.
