Controversial Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has reportedly told sources in his home country that he wants to stay on at Anfield, despite openly trying to quit the club all summer.

According to the Daily Star, the Uruguayan, who has spent most of the summer pushing for a move away from Liverpool, scored in a 4-2 friendly win over Japan on Wednesday.

The report added that just hours before the match, Suarez had told his friends that given the affection of the people at Liverpool, he will be staying on at the club.

However, the report mentioned that Suarez's decision will be a hammer blow to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger who had hoped to bring the striker, adding that the player's agent is now expected on Merseyside this weekend for talks over a new two-year deal on improved terms.

Appearing to confirm the fact, Liverpool defender Kolo Toure said that everyone at the club is happy and want Suarez to stay as he is a quality player and contributed a lot to the team last season.
