Reacting to the issuance of summons in the National Herald case to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi, party leader Anand Sharma said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramaniyan Swamy's allegations are cheap and scandalous.

"Subramaniyan Swamy makes scandalous charges against leaders, trying to catch eye of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by indulging in cheap tactics," said Sharma.

"This is politically motivated and malicious. We will give a robust response," he added.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, along with son Rahul Gandhi, has been summoned by a Delhi court here in connection with the National Herald newspaper case. They will have to appear personally in court on August 7.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had filed a complaint against the Gandhi scions of swindling the newspaper's funds.

He told ANI, "They have to face trial for this. The deal had taken place in 2002 and they have been named as accused. They have taken the Congress property and 76 percent share is of Sonia Gandhi.
