The Sudanese army has denied reports that its troops committed mass rape in the war-prone Darfur region.

Calling the reports as "unjustified and unreasonable," Army spokesperson Colonel Al-Sawarmy Khaled Saad told reporters mass rape "cannot be committed by any Sudanese institutions, military or otherwise, News 24 reported.

Addressing a news conference, he said that the concept of mass rape was something completely new for the Sudanese troops.

The denial comes following a news report published on 2 November claiming that in October, Sudanese troops entered Tabit to search for a soldier who had gone missing and raped 200 women and young girls.
