Journalist Nalini Singh on Friday questioned the need for the Delhi Police to demand polygraph tests for key witnesses in the death case of Sunanda Pushkar, the wife of
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
"It has been almost 15-16 months since the death of Sunanda and almost four-and-a-half-months the Delhi Police has ruled out that this is a case of murder. Now, with the police demanding a polygraph
test of the key witnesses in the case, two questions can be raised: What kind of statement did they give that it contradicted internally? Why did they think that they could hide something in such a high
profile case? Will such a demand be admissible in court?" Singh told ANI.
"Sunanda's viscera reports had signs of poisoning. The reports were sent to an American laboratory because of a lack of infrastructure in our labs to deal with the same. Those reports have not come back yet. What is the Delhi Police doing about it?" she asked.
The Delhi Police, which is investigating the case, wants a lie detector test on three witnesses close to the Tharoors. Their domestic help Narain Singh, driver Bajrangi and family friend Sanjay Dewan have asked to appear for the polygraph test.
According to reports, these witnesses are under suspicion for remaining silent on certain aspects of the case. All three witnesses have been summoned by the court on May 20.
Tharoor has been questioned thrice on the alleged murder of his wife, who was found dead in their hotel suite on January 17 last year, days after she publicly accused her husband of having an affair with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar.
