Sunderland FC ensured Premier League safety with draw against Arsenal on Wednesday, and also managed to restrict the latter to a third place finish in the English Premier League for the year 2014-15, behind champions Chelsea and runners-up Manchester City.

It was celebration time for manager Dick Advocaat, who succeeded sacked Gus Poyet, and ensured that Sunderland made a complete turnaround in its playing style and results.

The match, according to the BBC, was low on quality, but high on tension from the point of Sunderland staring at possible relegation.

Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon emerged as a heroic figure with a series of fine saves and an assured performance during last few minutes of what was an excruciating game for both players and fans.

All worries disappeared at the final whistle as Advocaat joined his joyous players on the pitch in front of their supporters.

Sunderland and Advocaat must now decide whether to continue their successful relationship.

Sunderland have been unbeaten in their last five league games. They only needed a draw to ensure Premier League survival.
