Disappointed over Delhi Congress Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely not fighting the assembly elections in the national capital, one of his supporters, a male, attempted to self-immolate himself in the Gandhi Nagar area here.

The supporter doused himself with kerosene and threatened to self-immolate himself but was stopped from going ahead with his plan.

Lovely's candidature was withdrawn from the upcoming assembly elections yesterday. He said he was honoured by the new role given to him by the party high command.

The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief also denied reports of infighting between party members ahead of the polls in the city. He has been given the charge of the organisation of the entire poll campaign in Delhi.

The elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held in a single phase on February 7, with the counting of votes set to take place on February 10.
