External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj assured those families whose members have been abducted in Iraq that all efforts are being done to rescue them during her meeting with them today.
At the end of the meeting the families were reassured that the government is doing everything under its capacity.
"Those who are held captive from Punjab (in Iraq) their families came to meet me, they had also met me on the 19th. They came here to know about the developments in the past 10 days," she said.
"I shared with them the written message that came from our ambassador in Iraq regarding the abducted, I have told the families that once we get direct contact with our nationals held under captivity then we will be sanguine on Red Crescent' version about their safety.," she added.
"Even if we have contact with them, we will still not be able to evacuate them as the conflict on the streets prevent evacuation operations. The families were reassured today that the government is doing everything under its capacity," she further added.
A similar meeting with the families of abducted Indians in Iraq had taken place earlier this month when Swaraj had assured the worried family members of full co-operation.
Of the many Indian nationals working in Iraq, majority of them are from the states of Haryana and Punjab.
