Taking on the Madhya Pradesh Police for dragging a suspect to a district court in the Gandhinagar area of the city after allegedly stripping and chaining him, the Congress on Sunday sought an explanation from Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and demanded prompt action against those guilty.

"The way the suspect has been treated by the police is inhuman. Even when the British ruled us, suspects were not tortured like this. The police had caught the accused, stripped him, chained him and then produced him in the court. I don't think such an incident has ever taken place in history. The Madhya Pradesh Police is responsible for this," Madhya Pradesh state Congress vice-president Manak Agarwal told ANI.

"It is very unfortunate that this incident took place inside the premises of a court. The police officials responsible should be probed and swift action should be taken against them," he added.

Accusing the Union Home Minister of not doing his duty, Agarwal further said, "The Home Minister Rajnath Singh is attending rallies in Haryana rather than addressing this problem. If these kinds of incidents keep on taking place in Madhya Pradesh, then the Congress party will protest vociferously against the condition of law and order in the state.
