Expelled Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Swami Prasad Maurya on Thursday taunted the Congress for declaring Sheila Dikshit as the party's chief ministerial candidate for Uttar Pradesh and said it is strange that the grand old party is bringing in rejected faces in the politically crucial state.

"The Congress, which is reaching out to the youth in its campaigns, has brought in a rejected leader from Delhi in Uttar Pradesh. This proves there is dearth of leaders in the Congress Party," Maurya told ANI.

The Congress, which is desperate to improve its tally in politically crucial Uttar Pradesh this time and has roped in election strategist Prashant Kishor, has named Dikshit as its chief ministerial candidate for next year's assembly polls.

Dikshit served thrice as the Delhi Chief Minister before AAP's Arvind Kejriwal defeated her with a record mandate in December 2013.
