Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy was on Wednesday critical of the NCP's warning to the Devendra Fadnavis-led Maharashtra Government, and said there is a need to accommodate the Shiv Sena in the fold by bending a little.
Swamy, who was reacting to NCP chief Sharad Pawar's comment that ensuring the stability of the Maharashtra Government was not his party's responsibility, said the latter is preparing for the worst situation.
"The fact of the matter is that we really don't know who all participated in the voice vote because I gather even the Shiv Sena participated in the voice vote in favour of the Fadnavis government. Generally speaking, we are not really happy that our blood brothers in Hindutva, the Shiv Sena, was separate from us. There was a political point of view to be proved and it had to be proved the hard way unfortunately," said Swamy
"And now, I think, the picture is pretty clear and, therefore, there is no reason for us to remember the past and be separate from Shiv Sena. We have to join with them, joining of Hindutva forces in our birth right and, therefore, we need to do it now even by bending a little to accommodate Shiv Sena," he added.
Pawar, who had offered the NCP's unconditional support to the BJP after the Maharashtra assembly polls, put the Fadnavis government in dock by predicting the possibility of mid-term polls in the state.
Pawar at a two-day NCP conclave that began at Alibaug on Tuesday told his party workers to gear up for mid-term elections in Maharashtra.
The NCP had earlier defended its decision to offer unconditional support to the Fadnavis-led BJP government, saying it wanted to provide stability in the larger interest of the state.
