England off-spinner Graeme Swann has said that his dream about being fit before the Ashes, which he was constantly thinking during his recovery following his elbow operation, is about to come true.
As Swann was recovering from his surgery, which removed 13 bits of bone fragment from his bowling elbow, dreaming about the Trent Bridge Test, there was no guarantee he would be part of the squad in Nottingham and the biggest series of the lot, the Mirror reports.
But after being told to try and forget about the Ashes until this week, Swann is excited at the arrival of the contest after getting his fitness verified, saying that his dream, that he better be fit and firing in time for the first Test, which was all he was thinking while lying in his bedroom after his operation, is about to come true.
Expressing his pleasure at having gained the freedom to finally talk publicly for the iconic series, Swann further said that although they were never banned from talking about the series or thinking about them, he added that they were however, encouraged to put in the back of their minds and wait until it began.
According to Swann, the more a player plays cricket, the more he earns to play in the Ashes, adding that there is something special about the Ashes even though Test cricket for England anywhere else in the world is magnificent.
According to the report, Swann is currently livening in a rosy dream, with England recent spate of success in sports like the Olympics, Tour de France, golf and tennis US Opens in 2012, followed by wins by the England Lions and Andy Murray in Wimbledon.
Hoping to add to that chain by making a hat-trick of wins with success in the Ashes, Swann joked that a win may even knighthoods for some of the players, even the post of the Prime Minister, adding that many of the players have already been honoured by the Crown.
Stating that England is desperate to win the Ashes, Swann also said that he can understand how a successful English team is important to the people of Britain, adding that he hopes to provide a lot of people with a lot of reasons to get very drunk happily.
