Swaraj discusses bilateral relations with Italian PM

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj began her maiden official visit to Italy on Monday by calling on newly-elected Italian Prime Minister Professor Giuseppe Conte at his office.

External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said the two leaders focused on forging bilateral cooperation across varied sectors.

"In the first engagement of the day, EAM @SushmaSwaraj called on Prime Minister of Italy Prof. Giuseppe Conte and congratulated him on assuming the high position. Discussions focused on forging bilateral cooperation across sectors & steps to revitalize our bilateral relationship" Kumar tweeted.

Swaraj also met her Italian counterpart Professor Enzo Moavero Milanesi to discuss the foreign policies of the two countries.

 

The meeting was held to discuss bilateral ties between the two countries and exchange views on issues of mutual interest.

"Reaffirming strong commitment to take our relationship forward! EAM @SushmaSwaraj met with Foreign Minister of Italy Enzo Moavero Milanesi. Leaders reviewed all aspects of our bilateral relationship, and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest," Kumar tweeted post the meeting.

Both leaders were accompanied by high-level officials, who were also present during the meeting.

After the Italy visit, Swaraj will depart for France, where she is expected to meet Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian on the occasion of the Indo-French strategic partnership's 20th anniversary.
