Swedish Navy Chief Rear Admiral Jan Thornqvist on Monday received a guard of honour at the South Block here this morning.
Rear Admiral Thornqvist is on a four-day official visit to India and he is expected to meet top government officials and the three service chiefs among others.
During his trip here is also scheduled to pay a visit to Kochi and Mumbai.
The ties between India and Sweden were established in 1949 and are founded on shared democratic values.
In recent years, mutual economic interests have emerged as the driver of the relationship with growth in bilateral trade, which crossed US$ 2 billion in 2009-10 and increased to USD 2.4 billion dolalrs in 2013-14. Two-way investments are also expanding.
There are complementarities in the areas of cutting edge technologies creating good potential for bilateral collaboration in important areas such as green technology, renewable energy, smart infrastructure, health and defence.
