US swimming champion-turned-movie star Esther Williams has passed away in Los Angeles. She was 91.
Williams' spokesman has announced that the actress had been in declining health due to old age, the BBC reported.
The national swimming champion was known for the MGM "aqua musicals" of the 1940s and '50s that turned her into a major Hollywood star.
She became known as Hollywood's Mermaid after featuring in movies like 'Dangerous When Wet' and 'Easy to Wed.'
Williams retired from the movies in 1962, following her marriage to her third husband- Hollywood playboy Fernando Lamas.
