Syria's chemical weapons will certainly not be removed as scheduled, the international organizations responsible for the operation have said.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime is cooperating with a joint United Nations/Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) team for destruction of the chemical weapons.

The OPCW had laid out December 31 as target date to destroy all the chemical weapons that Syria poses.

According to ABC News, the joint UN/OPCW mission announced that the transportation of the most critical chemical material before 31 December was unlikely.

The mission added that logistical challenges coupled with inclement weather have contributed to this delay.
