The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has revealed that the Islamic State of Iraq and Al Sham (ISIS), now called Islamic State (IS), has established a firm control over most oil fields in Syria.

According to the Dawn, all main oil and gas fields in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor are now fully controlled by the IS including, Tanak and Al-Omar oil refineries among others.

The rebel group has already declared a caliphate in all the areas under its control in Iraq and Syria. What started in Syria as a peaceful protest to remove President Bashar al-Assad, soon catapulted into a civil war following a violent crackdown by the regime.
