Syrian Kurdish fighters have reportedly seized control over the Islamic State-held town of Tal Abyad, cutting off a vital route used by jihadists to bring in foreign fighters.
Huseyin Kocher, a Kurdish Popular Protection Units (YPG) commander in Tal Abyad, said that the whole city was under their control and there was no more fighting. He also assured people that they will clear all the remnants of IS in northern Syria, reported the BBC.
The Syrian Kurds' advance was backed by Syrian rebel groups and U.S.-led coalition air strikes.
Meanwhile, the YPG has sent reinforcements to help secure the main road south to the IS headquarters in Raqqa.
The clashes had prompted thousands of civilians to flee to nearby Turkey.
