Syrian media has claimed that a leader of Al Qaeda-linked Jabhat al-Nusra militant group has been killed in Latakia Province.

Abu Mohammad al-Golani was killed in the coastal province of Latakia, said a one-line state-media TV report, without reveling the details, Fox News reports.

However, the report could not be immediately confirmed.

The terror outfit has been one of the strongest among rebel groups fighting Assad in mountainous regions of Latakia, which is largely loyal to President Bashar Assad.

Also known as Nusra Front, the group is on the U.S. State Department list of terrorist organizations.
