A Sikh superhero, who sports a beard and turban and battles against evils like the Taliban, is a smash hit with comic book fans.

Stories of Elvis fan Super Sikh, who leads a double life as a spy and comes up against the Taliban while visiting Graceland in the US, have been downloaded all over the world, the Daily Star reported.

It is hoped that the heroics of the British secret agent, a cross between Batman and Jason Bourne, will challenge negative racial stereotypes and prevent Sikhs being linked to Islamic extremists.

Creator Supreet Singh Manchanda, who lives in San Francisco, said that Sikhs have always been defenders of equality, justice and the oppressed, regardless of gender, caste or creed.
