A key provincial leader of Afghanistan's insurgent group Taliban was killed by own guards in eastern Nangarhar province.
The provincial police commandment, according to Khaama Press, has confirmed that Taliban leader Fazal Subhan and his four companions were shot dead in Khogyani district.
Nangarhar Police said Subhan was a key provincial leader and was the brother of another senior Taliban leader Mawlavi Nik Mohammad.
The insurgent group has, however, not commented, so far.
Earlier, the Taliban insurgents had suffered heavy casualties after their coordinated attack was repulsed by the Afghan security forces in eastern Nangarhar province.
"Several Taliban insurgents launched coordinated attack on security check posts in Momand Dara," Khaama Press had quoted a provincial government media office statement.
Anti-ISIS as well as anti-Taliban operation is underway to eliminate the presence of ISIS affiliates in Nangarhar province and U.S. forces are providing airstrikes support to the Afghan forces during the operations.
