Tamchon Football Tournament attracts spectators in Delhi

Thousands of football lovers from the national capital flooded the Dr Ambedkar stadium in Delhi to witness the closing ceremony of the eighth Tamchon Football Tournament.

The Tamchon Football Tournament is the highest paid Non AIFF affiliated football Tournament in the nation.

A total of 16 teams, comprising of players from the northeast, participated in the tournament to promote peace, friendship and unity among the youth of the country.

The event was organized under the aegis of Tanghkul Naga Society with support from various government and private agencies.

The final match was between Hmar FC and Siamsinpawlpi (SSPP), which Hmar FC won by 6-5 in a penalty shootout.

 

The winning team received the winning Trophy along with a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs while the SSPP FC bagged the runners-up trophy with a cash prize of Rs. 3 Lakhs.

Manager of SSPP, Goulian Guite, said that the tournament provides a good platform for players from the northeast.

"It is a good platform for the players especially from the northeast actually we do not get such kind of chance in a high level. We have not had such experienced so as of now Tamchon is giving us a good opportunity for the players to go out and get experience," Guite said.

Meanwhile, the president of Tangkhul Naga Society, Dr. Yaruingam said, "Our main purpose is to provide a platform to the northeast players who are unable to come up from the villages even though they have lots of talent. So we tried to bring them here to use this platform so that they can exercise, nurture their career and can come up to the higher level and our second purpose is to bring northeast together."

The spectators also got an opportunity to witness the enthralling Bihu dance from Assam and a colorful Lion Dance from Sikkim.

Roslyne Lalumpui, Maker Kashung and Khanthing Shimray from Manipur also enthralled the audience with their songs.

'Red Light passenger', a music band from Manipur, also performed to cheer up the players.
