The Tamil Nadu Government has approached the Supreme Court to seek a review of the latter's ruling prohibiting ruling parties from publishing photographs of political leaders or ministers, except that of the President, Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India, in government advertisements.

The petition reportedly states that the judgment has disregarded the equal share of power between the Centre and the states by not allowing the photographs of chief ministers and governors to be published.

The petition also states that the order gives an impression of the judiciary intruding into the policy decisions and requested the Supreme Court to set it aside.

It further states that the right to publish the chief minister's photograph should remain with the state governments in order to highlight the state's achievements.
