The Coastal Security Division on Tuesday arrested a man for carrying 400 kg dried and preserved sea cucumber at Ervadi village in Tamil Nadu's Ramanathapuram district, police said.
The man was carrying the preserved sea cucumber in a Tata Sumo when he was arrested by the Coastal Security personnel, the police said.
The sea cucumber, which is at risk of extinction, has a soft texture and medicinal properties. It is mostly eaten in China and other Southasian countries for many years.
Further investigation is underway.
