Nationalist Congress Party ( NCP) leader, Tariq Anwar on Friday appreciated prime minister Narendra Modi for showing disinclination in his profile being included in school curriculum by some states, while he criticised those who took such a step as 'sycophants'.

"This is all sycophancy. Those people who bring such proposals they do with an aim to eulogise the leader. It is good that Modi has understood and realised it. My own opinion is that it won't be right for students to learn about lives of those people who are still alive," Anwar said.

"These days everything is available on the internet and therefore, it is a good decision that he himself rejected the idea," Anwar added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown an apparent disinterest over his life struggles becoming a part of the school curriculum of some states.

Modi posted on the micro-blogging site Twitter: "Am reading in the news that some states want to include Narendra Modi's life struggles as a part of their school curriculum - PM Narendra Modi."

"I firmly believe that the life story of living individuals should not be included as a part of the school curriculum-PM Narendra Modi," he said.

"India has a rich history of several stalwarts who made India what it is today.
