Congress MP and the state's chief minister's son, Gaurav Gogoi, on Monday called for unity within the party in view of the upcoming by-elections and municipal polls in the state.
"We all are aware that in Assam a united party will win back support from the people. We have elections coming up. We have the Municipality elections coming up, three by- elections coming up. We have to do well in these elections. Our party must be united. The people of Assam expect more and we have to work together in order to meet their expectations," Gaurav Gogoi said.
"I am confident after his (Mallikarjun Kharge ) visit the High Command has got all the information. They have taken a few steps. In the future as well they will direct us as to how to work as a united party," he added.
The Kaliabor MP also had a word for dissidents, who had revolted against the Tarun Gogoi-led government.
"I think what is needed is that if we all decide that we want to fight this election as one family , then irrespective of whoever wants to create split, their efforts will not bear fruit. Our work will win the hearts and minds of Assamese people again," Gogoi said.
