Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Chandra Babu Naidu on Tuesday celebrated the party's win in the Kakinada municipal polls, after a gap of at least 30 years.
"All our senior leaders worked at the ground level without any egos. We will develop Kakinada as a model city. Encouraging sports personalities like P.V. Sindhu, K. Srikanth, Jyothi Surekha," Naidu said.
The Chief Minister also distributed sweets to his party members in his office.
The TDP has secured 32 seats, while the opposition party Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) won 10 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and others managed to secure three seats each.
Even before the counting conclusion, the TDP won the mayor seat and left Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy's YSRCP with just eight wards.
Chosen to be developed as a Smart City, Kakinada has a strong Kaput community existence where an agitation for Other Backward Class (OBC) status for Kapus is going on for past one year.
This was a major setback for the YSRCP after the defeat in recent Nandyal bypolls.
