Eyeing better future prospects for Kashmir youth, the state government has decided to take technical education to far flung villages of the Kashmir Valley by offering advanced set skills.
The state government is building a polytechnic college in Baramulla District to impart technical education and offer advanced skill set to youth of the region vying for good jobs.
The main aim of constructing this college is to impart trainings like civil engineering, architecture, computer operator and electric engineering to the unemployed youths lagging behind due to financial constraint.
"Ours is a very small place and to complete further education we would had to go to Srinagar. The fare was too much and but since they (authorities) are building colleges in various places in Kashmir including Baramulla, I would say its very beneficial. Their time consumption has also reduced," said Adil Sultan, a student.
The construction of the college was initiated in March 2013 and is likely to be completed in 2015.
"To uplift the technical education its very much important. In Baramulla we have the ITI(Industrial Training Institute Baramulla) but that needs upgradation as well. Keeping view in that, the polytechnic college is of vital importance to have more a more skilled people and having people with technical know how. In turn which will provide job security to the young and youth," said Farooq Ahmed, an engineer working at the site.

Kashmir has often been targeted by militants who have used the lack of educational facilities in the region to instigate and convince them to join militancy.
With the decline in militancy in recent years, Kashmiri youth are making a mark in various fields such as filmmaking, sports, administrative services, aeronautics and many others.
