Commuters traveling by the Kolkata Metro faced inconvenience this morning, after a non-air conditioning rake suffered a technical snag, leading to a disruption of services for over an hour.

Speaking to ANI, R N Mahapatra, CPRO, Metro Rail Kolkata said: "There was a problem since morning, one non-AC metro rake got disabled suddenly after leaving Park Street metro station, because of non-motoring and there was some technical snag. Immediately crisis management team stationed in Park Street and Maidan came into action and the control room immediately ordered them to evacuate the passengers."

He allayed fears of anyone falling sick, "We switched off the current from the third rail and started evacuating passengers and all of them safely evacuated without any problem, nobody has fallen sick, Whatever has been spread is just rumour and the rake was detained from some time. At 1.15 p.m we had our normal service," he added.

"But before that from 11.25 a.m onwards we had a truncated service from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Kavi Subhas and Kavi Subhas to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. Again from Central station to Dum Dum-Noapara and vice-versa. In between Central and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar our service was suspended due to non-motoring of the non-ac rake," he further added.
