Telugu Desam Party (TDP) staged a protest in Visakhapatnam on Monday against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi over the decision to split Andhra Pradesh, and demanded a unified state.

TDP President N. Chandrababu Naidu, criticized the ruling Congress Government for causing strife between the residents of Andhra Pradesh.

"It is very unfortunate. For the last four or four and a half years in Andhra Pradesh there is total chaos and uncertainty, there is no government. The Congress Party is playing with the lives of people of Andhra Pradesh," he said.

Meanwhile, President of Visakhapatnam faction of TDP V. Ganesh Kumar said that they had organized this protest to convey their message across to Sonia Gandhi.

"Today the Seemandhra region (fly) is taking revenge on Sonia Gandhi because the main enemy of today's Andhra is Sonia Gandhi. She has divided Andhra Pradesh, so our main request is to keep the state united," he said in Visakhapatnam.

A protester dressed in the costume of a fly representing costal region Seemandhra, attacked a woman enacting as Sonia Gandhi, a pictorial depiction of the ire of the residents of Andhra Pradesh against the ruling Congress party.

TDP had been protesting against the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, ever since the Congress Party agreed to create Telangana.

Earlier, on August 1, legislators from Andhra Pradesh had submitted their resignations as a mark of protest over the Congress' decision to bifurcate the state.

The Congress Working Committee's (CWC) decision to grant separate statehood to Telangana, on July 30, has invited severe criticism towards the ruling party, as the timing of the announcement comes crucially close to the 2014 general elections.
