Controversial Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios did his best to live up to his bad boy reputation as he received a code violation for hitting the ball into the roof during his Japan Open loss on Saturday.

The 20-year-old launched a series of verbal outbursts before going down 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 against France's Benoit Paire during their heated quarter-final clash. The match also saw TV commentators apologise to their viewers after one of his outbursts was picked up by on-court microphones, the Guardian reported.

Kyrgios failed to sustain his initial momentum as well as his emotions after being broken in the third set.

Earlier in August, Kyrgios had sparked controversy when he made lewd remarks to Stan Wawrinka during their Montreal Masters match.
