British supermarket giant, Tesco, has been reportedly hit by a hack attack that has exposed login names and passwords of more than 2,000 of its customers.

Tesco said that the hackers used details stolen from other sites to compile the compiled data, which they posted to a popular text-sharing site.

According to the BBC, the supermarket giant has deactivated the affected accounts and was investigating the appearance of the user data.

It is said that the attackers combed through data stolen in other high-profile security breaches and tried those password-email combinations on the Tesco site and got close to 2,239 hits.

Tesco said that it has contacted all customers who might have been affected, assuring that it would issue replacement vouchers to the very small number who were affected.

The report said that Tesco has fallen victim to cyber-thieves in early 2013 when hundreds of owners of Tesco Clubcards reported their loyalty card account had been penetrated.

Recently, American retail giant, Target Corp. had also experienced a major credit card data breach that exposed details of nearly 110 million customers.
