Tessa Thompson has been chosen to essay the role of notorious jewellery thief - Doris Payne.
The Variety revealed the news that was later substantiated by the 'Thor: Ragnarok' actor herself.
The 34-year-old actress took to Twitter to express her excitement, "After chasing Doris and her story for years- and then keeping this secret for awhile- I'm screaming that this dream is coming true. She is a deeply fascinating woman. So pleased to bring this story to the screen with CodeBlack & Lionsgate. Beyond grateful".
Thompson will portray the character of Payne, a woman who gained notoriety for her jewel heists across the world.
Payne, now 87 in age, would pose as a well-to-do high-bred woman and steal jewellery pieces from stores using her charm.
In her six-decade-long career, the thief was arrested numerous times and had admitted to having used '20 aliases, 10 Social Security numbers, and nine dates of birth'.

Payne was the muse of a 2013 documentary named 'The Life and Crimes of Doris Payne'. Many incidences from her life, including her thefts, modus operandi, and arrests were showcased in the documentary.
Payne's life rights have been obtained by Codebalack Films which is a part of Lionsgate. Thompson will jointly produce the untitled flick with Codeblack's Jeff Clanagan.
