British top seed Andy Murray suffered a stunning defeat at the hands of unseeded Teymuraz Gabashvili in a second round match at the Washington Open.
World number three was beaten 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) by the 53rd-ranked Russian.
Murray admitted that it was the first hard-court match for four-and-a-half months, adding that he was happy with how he moved on court,the BBC reported.
Gabashvili smashed 11 aces and had to break back at 5-4 down in the third set for over two hours and 42 minutes to reach the third round at the ATP and WTA Washington Open.
Meanwhile, Sam Groth and unseeded American Steve Johnson advanced to the third round after their easy wins over Lleyton Hewitt (Australia) and Bernard Tomic (Germany) respectively.
