Thailand's military junta has lifted the curfew it imposed on the country last month, saying that the decision has been taken in view of an "improved" situation and with the motive to improve tourism.

According to the BBC, the 22:00-05:00 curfew, imposed by Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, had already ended in most of the country.

A televised announcement was made on Friday about the lifting of the curfew by Thailand's military.

Earlier, Thailand was placed under curfew overnight after the nation's army announced that it had taken control and suspended the constitution following months of political turmoil.

Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha had imposed the curfew along with a ban on political gatherings from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
