As anticipated, Alejandro G. Inarnitu has bagged the 'Best Director' award for Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer 'The Revenant' at the 88th Academy Awards.

'The Revenant' went into Oscar night being the most-nominated film.

"Maske sure for once and forever that the colour of our skin becomes as irrelevant as the length of our hair," said the director, slamming the 'Oscar So White' controversy, during his winning speech holding the Golden Lady.

Other nominees for direction were Tom McCarthy for 'Spotlight,' Adam McKay for 'The Big Short,' George Miller for 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' and Lenny Abrahamson for 'Room.'

Earlier, Alejandro G. Inarnitu bagged BAFTA and Golden Globe for the film this year.

'The Revenant' speaks about the experience of legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, who was left back by his hunting team when he sustained injuries from a brutal bear attack.
