Former Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini has assumed his job responsibilities as the new Manchester City manager and has said that he is required to win a lot of titles as he has succeeded former City manager Roberto Mancini only because the latter was unable to win any titles in the last season.
City approved of Pellegrini, who will officially take up his three-year contract on June 24, as their new manager because of his record in the Champions League and his achievement of reaching the quarter-finals during his debut campaigns with both Villarreal and Malaga, the Mirror reports.
City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak praised Pellegrini saying that he is a highly-experienced and successful manager who has had a proven track record.
Pellegrini said that he is aware of the huge investment City has made in a bid to improve the squad and to win more silverware, adding that the future years will ensure Premier and Champions League triumph despite City's loss in the last season.
Expressing his excitement over working with City's 'talented players', Pellegrini backed the City squad, saying that he is confident that the players can win titles in the next three or four seasons and urged City fans to enjoy the coming season, which, he vowed, will pose an attractive and offensive style of play.
Pellegrini confidently said that he can meet City's high standards because of the talented squad he is inheriting and claimed that City will add to Mancini's contribution over the years, although he hoped that the club will promote a new way of playing under him.
The Chilean manager who had won two league titles in Argentina said that his experience will come handy in his stint with City and also at winning the Champions League and feels that City's success can be best delivered by playing open football.
Pellegrini, who has worked in Chile, Argentina, Ecuador and Spain, said that he is accustomed to managerial duties in different countries, adding that he agreed with the City board and City's assistant manager Brian Kidd's decision to be part of his revolution saying that more home-grown players should be welcomed in the club.
