The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students have been protesting against the arrest of students' union president Kanhaiya Kumar, who has been booked with charges of sedition.

• Delhi High Court remands Kanhaiya Kumar to two-day police custody.

• A scuffle broke out on Monday afternoon at the Patiala House court during the hearing of Kanhaiya Kumar, who was arrested on Friday on charges of sedition.

• Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA O.P. Sharma beat up an unidentified man. As a result, Kumar could not be produced in the court due to tense situation.

• The students, who have been demanding Kumar's release, alleged that they were roughed up by a group of lawyers when they entered the court premises. During scuffle, three journalists were also attacked by some lawyers inside the court premises.

• Home Minister Rajnath Singh says that the JNU incident had the backing of LeT chief Hafiz Saeed. Opposition condemns his claims, saying that he should come with proof before making such serious charges.

• Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi visits the JNU campus on to meet the students protesting for the release of Kanhaiya Kumar. There he says the most anti-national people are the ones suppressing the voice of this institution. He also drew parallels between Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government and dictator Adolf Hitler's regime over the arrest of JNU students' union president in a sedition case.

• Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI (M) polit buro Sitaram Yechury compares the JNU incident to what happened during the time of Emergency. He said, "What is happening in JNU? Police on campus, arrests and picking up students from hostels. This last happened during Emergency."
